Recently two Indian swimmers defied the barrier of age to set a benchmark and act as role models to inspire people to engage in challenges of Open Water Swimming. Both were a testimony to the courage, relentless spirit, mental resilience and tapping reserves of energy to the optimum. It is very rare for Indians to navigate Open Water Sea Swimming challenges above or near age of 50, unlike international swimmers.

Every day when breakfast is served, Americans come face to face with the impact of immigrant workers without whom breakfast items would be too expensive for everyday consumption and/or if short on time, the nearest drive-through fast-food establishment, cars lined up for blocks, would charge an arm and a leg for a simple egg, cheese, and sausage sandwich. Without immigrant workers, costs will skyrocket beyond the reach of many Americans.

The North Channel is considered by most, the toughest or most perilous of the Ocean Seven swims in that it is very cold, is plagued by the notorious lions’ main jellyfish and involves many competing tides and currents all the way across right up until the final few metres. Located between Northern Ireland and Scotland, it is the coldest of the channels, and has confounded countless great swimmers.

Tanvi Chavan Deore, a 33-year-old swimmer from Maharashtra’s Nashik and a mother of two kids, made history by becoming the first Indian mother to successfully swim across the English Channel, on June 30th, this year. This channel spans approximately 42 kilometers between the UK and France and is considered one of the world’s most dangerous swimming challenges.
