Axial elongation and myopia progression vary by age and region/ethnicity, where East Asian eyes have higher age-specific progression compared with European eyes. Regional/ethnic differences are age-specific, where larger differences are observed in younger ages. Regional/ethnic differences in axial elongation are observed in both myopic and non-myopic eyes, but are greater in myopic eyes.

The 2-year incidence of myopia among Swedish schoolchildren was low. The risk factors for refractive error changes were parental myopia and being already a myope at the start of the study. A new hypothesis is raised that low educational pressure in early childhood might protect Swedish children from abnormal emmetropisation leading to myopia. INTRODUCTION The prevalence of myopia in Scandinavia is lower than in other parts of the world.

The only problem is that statistics show that 67% of students who fail a vision screening do not go and get an eye exam. Of our five senses, the last one anybody would want to lose is their vision. Ironically, though, it tends to be the last thing people think about, especially regarding children.
