Denver’s second annual Outside Festival brought the city together in a way that felt necessary in this tumultuous moment in history. Set in Civic Center Park, the city’s very heart, it felt communal, unifying, a celebration of a city coming together to laugh and eat and drink and dance under cascading sunshine. Outside Festival is many things but the music is what convinces so many to attend.

We at 303 Magazine’s Music Desk saw a rather incredible amount of live music in 2024. All combined, we collectively saw something like 300 shows throughout the year. We enveloped ourselves in music in 2024, danced with those we love the most, closed our eyes and screamed along as stage lights cascaded around us. These were truly beautiful experiences that reminded one of what it means to be alive. However, given the sheer amount of shows we saw, reflection has the potential to grow a bit difficult.

Say what you will about the year as a whole; at least 2024 was an excellent year for music. It took so many of us by the hand and guided us through all the chaos that this year showed us all. As a result, This piece was tough to put together.

Founded by longtime music industry professionals Louis “Lou” DeMarco and Calhoun “Cal” McDougall, the company is already off to a strong start with such beloved electro-funk acts as Manic Focus and Phypher numbering among the brand-new endeavor’s clients.

The Fall 2024 iteration of Denver Fashion Week (DFW) is in full swing, having started November 9th and running until November 17th. For every iteration of the annual event, each featured designer crafts an entire experience, presenting their months of hard work in the best light possible. Music is an integral part of this presentation, propelling the models’ steps as they walk down the runway bathed in light and dripping in the dreams of the designer they are walking for.

Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox has long been one of Denver’s most beloved venues. A gem shining out from the heart of downtown, the former brothel is one of the city’s best places to see both national and local musicians, eat some damn good food and just generally have a great time. Ophelia’s recently changed owners, as restaurant group Edible Beats sold the venue and restaurant to longtime music industry professional Eric Pirritt and ENDIT Productions.

On Tuesday, October 8th, beloved Denver-based DJ and producer Maddy O’Neal dropped her third full-length album, Vital Signs. The world needs music like this these days. Things feel heavy for many, life and the prospect of the passage of time looming overhead and darkening the horizon. A person, especially a young one, navigating this world needs to be prepared, needs tools and ideas to protect themselves from entropy. Maddy O’Neal’s Vital Signs is such a tool.

Garage-punk legends FIDLAR’s music feels so very alive these days. It’s always been visceral, fast and filled with stories of debauchery and self-loathing told with humor but now it seems there’s a touch more hope to it, a willingness to come to terms with past mistakes instead of dwelling within them. FIDLAR — which stands for “Fuck It Dude, Life’s a Risk” — recently put out Surviving the Dream, their first full-length album in four years.
