Back in 2016, I surprised everyone—including myself—by coming third place in a 220-runner, six-day stage race across Namibia. What was perhaps weirder, was that I managed to do this while finishing most days between positions five and 15. How did I shoot up to the podium, despite completing almost every stage a good 30 to 60 minutes behind the top finishers?
