1 INTRODUCTION Alumina (α- Al2O3) is one of the representative ceramic materials used in critical structural components due to its superior hardness and strength-to-weight ratio.1-4 Processing of Al2O3 by a conventional pressureless consolidation method takes more than 10 hours above 1400°C to reach a high relative density.5 As the high temperature and long sintering time lead to significant grain coarsening, an alternative sintering technique is necessary to prepare dense specimens with...

Never before has hydrogen received so much attention – and so much pressure to prove itself. As part of the clean energy transition, it holds great potential to decarbonise key industries and reduce climate-warming emissions at a time when climate concerns have never been greater. That’s why countries and companies are counting on it to reach their Net Zero ambitions and are investing billions to get this new economy’s 1,000+ project pipeline up and running.

All eyes are on hydrogen for its potential as a clean energy source, especially in hard-to-decarbonize sectors like steel and cement production and long-haul transportation, where green electricity can’t currently do the job by itself. But before anyone crowns hydrogen a golden climate solution, we need to know how much hydrogen escapes into the atmosphere along its value chain, from production to distribution to storage and end use.
