Carrying extra fat around your waist raises your risk for multiple diseases, including heart disease and diabetes, and now a January 2019 study published in the peer-reviewed journal Neurology suggests that excess belly fat can also impact your brain. In the study, researchers followed 9,652 participants with the average age of 55 and compared body mass index (BMI) to the volume of grey matter and the white matter in their brains.
