He told me that sometimes it can just be too daunting to not be sad because we don’t know what’s waiting for us when we’re happy. Our sadness is familiar. I’ve spent more time than I’d like to admit wallowing in my sadness.

At 22 years old, I’ve spent the past 7 years learning how to cope and manage my depression and anxiety, since I was diagnosed at 15. Nothing is easy when you’re a teenage girl. High school sucked sometimes, and at that age it felt like everything and everyone was working against you. I’ll admit turning 18 and going to University didn’t magically solve everything — if anything navigating mental health as an adult was even harder.
