Bandits have attacked Mahuta town in Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State, shooting a Shari’a court judge, Rabiu Mahuta, in the hand and his son. In a fresh wave of violence, bandits attacked two communities in Katsina State last weekend, killng six people and abducting 59 others. On Sunday night, around 10:30pm, armed bandits stormed Layin Gara village in Funtua Local Government Area, where they killed two residents and abducted 16 others. Locals said the attackers operated unchallenged for several hours. Just a day earlier, on Saturday, heavily armed bandits riding motorcycles invaded Maikuma village.

At least six people have reportedly been killed and about 59 others abducted in separate attacks across communities in Katsina State. The most recent attack occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday at Layin Gara village in Funtua Local Government Area (LGA), where two people were killed and 16 others kidnapped. A resident, who requested anonymity, told our reporter that the attackers operated for several hours without facing any resistance.

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has pledged his administration’s commitment to protecting the cultural heritage and dignity of emirates in the state. A statement by his Chief Press Secretary,  Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed,  said the Governor made the declaration during the traditional Hawan Magajiya Fiesta held in Daura Emirate. Nine passengers have been confirmed dead in a fatal road accident on Sunday along the Malumfashi-Kafur Road in Katsina State. Aliyu Ma’aji, the Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who confirmed the incident to newsmen said it was a lone accident involving a Hummer bus carrying 20 passengers. “Nine passengers died on the spot while 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
