The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in downtown Halifax will reopen on June 8 after being closed for several months due to building maintenance. The AGNS will have two new exhibitions on view — Mitchell Wiebe: VampSites and Denyse Thomasos: just beyond. Visitors on June 8 can join a tour with curators from both exhibitions at 1 p.m.The AGNS will continue to feature the work of folk artist Maud Lewis, works by Indigenous artists from across Canada and highlights from its permanent collection.

Myra Freeman, a former lieutenant-governor of Nova Scotia, has been appointed as the new chair of the committee established to monitor the implementation of the recommendations from the final report of the Mass Casualty Commission. Barbara Adams, Nova Scotia’s attorney general and minister of justice, and Dominic LeBlanc, federal minister of public safety, announced the appointment Tuesday. It takes effect Saturday.

Lunenburg District RCMP is investigating an ATV crash in Forties that claimed the life of an infant girl. At about 7:10 p.m. on Monday, RCMP, fire services and paramedics responded to a report of a side-by-side crash on a logging road near the 1100 block of Forties Road. Police officers discovered that a Polaris Rzr travelling on the narrow gravel roadway rolled, coming to rest on its roof, according to a news release.

Grammy and Juno award-winning Sarah McLachlan returns to her hometown of Halifax for a Nov. 5 concert at Scotiabank Centre as part of her Fumbling Towards Ecstasy 30th anniversary tour. The singer-songwriter will also play Avenir Centre in Moncton on Nov. 4. McLachlan will be joined by the acoustic harmony trio Tiny Habits on their first tour of Canada.
