The first thing I do every morning, even before starting the coffee, is check the Halifax Examiner financials. I look at the bank account, see how much (or more often, how little) cash is on hand. Then I look at the credit card balance (which I zero out every month in order to avoid interest charges). I open up Stripe and see what kind of money will be coming in over the next several days. Next I go to the Examiner site, click on the admin page, and look at the number of active subscribers.

In order to tell Daniel Sampson’s story — that he was framed by the RCMP for the murder of two boys near First Chain Lake, that RCMP officers lied under oath at trial, and that in 1935 Sampson was murdered by the state, the last person executed in Halifax — I had to dive very deeply into history. I am not a professional historian, but I’ve learned how to research, and I think I’ve made a convincing case. It’s all collected here.

Monday evening, I was sitting at the bar with my buddy Taylor as he was fiddling with his phone, and he showed me an ad for a digital jump rope. A what? Sure enough, the jump rope has a “built in digital jump rope counter which allows you to input your weight to track the time and rotations and burned calories. “The tiny screen which displays on this fitness jump rope crossfit shows Timer, Weight, Calorie and Circles is useful to monitor your exercising progress.
