Entering Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals Thursday night, the New York Knicks listed Karl-Anthony Towns as questionable, a major issue considering a loss would end the team’s season. The 7-foot All-Star, who sustained a left knee injury in the previous game, didn’t participate in his normal pregame shooting routine, either. Still, after helping the Knicks defeat the Indiana Pacers 111-94 to cut their deficit to three games to two, Towns said he knew all along he would play.

On Thursday night, Mikal Bridges will play in the most important game of his career when the New York Knicks host the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks are trailing three games to one, so a loss will end their season while a victory will keep alive their championship dreams. Bridges, as usual, will be in New York’s starting lineup.

For the first time in a quarter century, the New York Knicks hosted an NBA Eastern Conference Finals game on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden. The sold-out crowd included A-list actors, comedians, musicians and former professional athletes. Mary J. Blige performed at halftime. All in all, it was a major night for a franchise that hadn’t advanced this far since 2000, although the game ended in disappointing and stunning fashion.

None of the current New York Knicks’ starters were even in kindergarten back then, which was the last time the franchise had clinched a playoff series at Madison Square Garden.
