Purdue point guard Braden Smith’s junior season ended on a sour note, albeit through no fault of his own. Smith, a first team All-American, had an assist on each of the 11 field goals the Boilermakers made in the second half of a Sweet 16 NCAA tournament game against Houston. Still, Smith’s 15 total assists and clutch play down the stretch weren’t enough, as the Cougars scored the game-winning shot on an inbounds pass with 0.9 seconds remaining, giving Houston a 62-60 victory.

Poolhouse, a United Kingdom-based startup founded by the brothers behind Topgolf, has raised $34 million in a seed round. The company plans on using the proceeds to further develop its technology, gain a foothold in the competitive sports-themed entertainment retail industry and open locations where people can play a high-tech version of pool while eating, drinking and socializing.

JT Toppin could have played for any men’s college basketball program next season. If the 6-foot-9 forward entered the transfer portal, the Texas Tech star would have had no shortage of suitors. He could have also declared for the NBA draft. Instead, Toppin announced via Instagram Wednesday that he will return to the Red Raiders. The move is a boon for Texas Tech, a school that’s historically not known for its basketball prowess.

Florida guard Walter Clayton Jr. sprinted as fast as he could. This was it. The national title was on the line. Houston guard Emanuel Sharp, the man Clayton was guarding, had run from the left block under the basket and caught the ball beyond the 3-point line at the top of the key. About five seconds remained in Monday night’s NCAA men’s basketball championship game in San Antonio. Sharp jumped up to take the shot, but here came Clayton Jr., closing out on Sharp and extending his left arm.

Throughout the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, Florida guard Walter Clayton Jr. has put together one of the most dominant runs in recent memory. In five games, he is averaging 24.6 points and shooting 50% from the field (33 of 66), including 48.7% (19 of 39) on 3-pointers. He had the best game of his career in Saturday night’s Final Four, scoring 34 points on 11 of 18 shooting (5 of 8 on 3’s) in Florida’s 79-73 victory over Auburn.

For @ForbesSports, my article on Houston’s Kelvin Sampson looking to become the oldest coach to win an NCAA men’s basketball title tonight against Florida. The Cougars (35-4) have never won a national title, while the Gators (35-4) won in 2006 and 2007. - https://t.co/5tKJIoblRX
