Auburn senior guard Carter Hansen came through in the clutch as the Trojan boys basketball team pulled out a 63-57 victory over Puyallup in a Tuesday Class 4A District 3/4 tournament semifinal. With the shot clock winding down to four seconds, Hansen drew a foul while leaping up in the air to fire off a wild shot from 3-point range. Hansen hit all three of his free throws, turning what had been only a 53-51 lead for Auburn to a 56-51 advantage with 2:03 to play in the game.

Tim Clinton Contributing writer KENTKentwood’s six-game winning streak is no more after Kentridge knocked the Conqueror boys basketball team off by an 81-78 score in overtime Tuesday. The Chargers’ stunning win in the Kentwood gymnasium threw the North Puget Sound League Class 4A division standings into logjams for second and fifth place. The top five finishers advance to the postseason. “It was a great win and we needed it,” said Kentridge head coach Zac Webb.

It was the first loss of the year for the Lions, who led by 12 points at 55-43 with only 4:04 to go before the Eagles rallied. “It just clicked in us,” said Niles, who paced Federal Way with 23 points.

Auburn cemented its hold on first place in the North Puget Sound League Class 4A boys basketball standings Tuesday with a 75-57 win at Kentwood. The Trojans ran their division record to 8-0 and their overall mark to 14-0 while knocking the Conquerors into a distant three-way tie for second place at 5-3 in division play with Stadium and Kennedy Catholic. Kentwood fell to 10-4 overall while Stadium, a 63-54 winner over Kennedy Catholic in other Tuesday action, improved to 7-5.
