A decade ago, high achievers would boast of how little sleep they got as if it were a sign of courage and stamina. That flipped on its head in recent years, with length and quality of sleep the new badge of honour. Now, the most restful pastime humans can enjoy is starting to look like a competitive sport. According to the burgeoning sleep-tech industry, if you want to win - and apparently you do want to win - you need a sleep coach and high-end gadgets.

Good Evening from Taipei,This morning, I found out that Culpium has been selected as a finalist for The Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) awards, the most prestigious journalism awards in the region. The nomination is in the category of Excellence in Opinion Writing - Regional. SOPA Awards, and this category, tend to be dominated by large and established media outlets; the two other finalists in my category are both from Singapore’s storied Straits Times newspaper.

Good Morning from Taipei, I think it’s highly probable that TSMC Arizona will be spun off due to US government pressure. It would initially be 100% controlled by TSMC, but eventually could get listed on the NYSE or NASDAQ with TSMC HQ’s stake slowly declining. The business model would probably be some kind of technology and management licensing deal because I see no hope for TSMC Arizona doing leading-edge process R&D on its own.

Good Morning from Taipei,I get the sense that many people have spent more time opining about Deepseek than actually reading and trying to understand the company and its recent developments. Rather than weigh in with yet another quicktake, I decided to step away until the noise died down. Now seems as good a time as any to explain what I think most people have missed. First, I think the obsession with Deepseek’s nationality misses the most important characteristic of the company.

Small, independent media outlets can mix it with the big dogs. My little publication, Culpium, is a finalist for the prestigious SOPA Awards in the category of Opinion writing, alongside major names like Bloomberg, Financial Times, and the Straits Times. https://t.co/gvQCXSIiVO https://t.co/Ia7dyf49ql
