Britain is a nation of animal lovers. Brits expect the highest levels of animal welfare, and they deserve to know that the animals in the food system have their health protected to the highest level. But under the last Conservative Government animal welfare was neglected for years. The Conservatives scrapped animal welfare legislation, agreed trade deals which undermined Britain’s animal welfare standards, and continually let down British farmers.

Donald Trump’s decision to dismantle USAID and halt its £55bn of spending has far-reaching consequences. Vaccination programmes, clean water projects, food aid and humanitarian work have all been abruptly halted, causing distress to millions of vulnerable people around the globe. Refugee resettlement has also been badly hit. The US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants has called this a ‘devastating development’ for refugees in the process of being resettled to the USA.
