    A United Airlines flight returned to O'Hare International Airport shortly after departure Sunday, following a possible bird strike. United flight 2481 to Syracuse, New York, landed safely upon returning, the airline said. Everyone on the plane was moved to another aircraft, which departed safely. There were 129 passengers and five crewmembers onboard the Airbus A320 aircraft, United said. Further information about the possible bird strike was not immediately available.

    CHICAGO (CBS) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Tuesday that its officers seized more than 1,500 devices to turn weapons fully automatic over the course of last year. CBP said its officers seized 473 shipments containing 1,507 weapon-modifying devices from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2024. The agency said it stopped 155 shipments containing 354 Glock switches—which modify semiautomatic weapons to make them fully automatic—between January and June.

    CHICAGO (CBS) -- A former employee of Lurie Children's Hospital has filed a lawsuit claiming she was fired for reporting safety issues to state regulators. Christina Christner worked as a pharmacy tech at the hospital. She accused Lurie of unsanitary practices while preparing medications—including the reuse of gloves and single-use fluid bags, the use of medications past their expiration, the use of rubbing alcohol to wipe down surfaces instead of sterile alcohol.

    Car slams into business in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood CHICAGO (CBS) -- A driver was cited after slamming his sport-utility vehicle into a restaurant in Uptown Sunday night. The car plowed into Anna Maria Pasteria, located at 4400 N. Clark St. at the northwest corner of the intersection with Montrose Avenue. Police said at 9:48 p.m., a 27-year-old man was driving a Lexus RX300 northwest on Clark Street when he ran a red light at Montrose Avenue.
