SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- While no one knows for sure when the next big earthquake might hit, San Francisco says it's getting ready. On Wednesday, the city's building inspection commission passed a new piece of legislation requiring owners of concrete buildings to hire an engineer to complete a seismic safety screening. Supervisor Myrna Melgar authored the bill. "We know that there are potentially hundreds of buildings. We don't know how many of them are built up to code or not," Melgar said.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- With a unanimous vote Tuesday night, the San Jose City Council approved a multi-million dollar overhaul of Columbus Park. The park has been shut down for years and has become the site of San Jose's largest homeless encampment. In preparation for the revamp, the San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan says all of those people currently living there will need to go. "I do think this is progress.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie's office released a new report Monday on the recently opened mobile triage unit in the city's SoMa neighborhood. The unit is a place where people who are homeless or experiencing substance abuse can go to be connected with shelter or drug addiction services. Since opening in early February, the unit has served over 12,000 people.
