POLK COUNTY, Fla. — The body of a child who disappeared into the water of Lake Roy in Polk County was recovered late Thursday afternoon. Multiple law enforcement agencies were searching for the child Thursday. The child was reportedly swimming in Lake Roy but disappeared in the water. The Polk County Sheriff's Office, Winter Haven Police Department, and Polk County Fire Rescue all participated in the search. This is a breaking news story.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office canine was shot and killed as it attacked an alpaca Monday evening. According to HCSO, Canine Brooks was let out by Master Deputy Charles Perdomo for a bathroom break in a fenced yard around 9:30 p.m. According to the sheriff's office, Brooks jumped the fence and ran into a wooded area behind the deputy's home. Around 30 minutes later, a neighbor found Brooks actively attacking his alpaca.

BARTOW, Fla. — A Winter Haven man was arrested Monday evening for allegedly hitting and killing a retired Polk County Sheriff's Office sergeant who had stopped to remove debris from a roadway. The Polk County Sheriff's Office said the retired sergeant was Dan Cooley, 69, of Bartow. Detectives said Cooley had pulled his car onto the northern edge of Van Fleet Drive in Bartow and turned on his hazard lights.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays announced Thursday that they will not proceed with the new stadium and surrounding development. This marks the end of a years-long process that the team and city/county thought had been settled last year. "After careful deliberation, we have concluded we cannot move forward with the new ballpark and development project at this moment," the Rays said on their official X page.
