Amazon delivery hub going up in North Mankato's industrial park

NORTH MANKATO — If you think you get things pretty quickly from Amazon now, the deliveries in the Mankato region could be even a little faster in the future. Amazon is building a delivery center in the Northport Industrial Center, located along Carlson Drive, south of Palmer Bus and Blue Star Power. “They call it a ‘last-mile’ center,” said North Mankato Community Development Director Mike Fischer.

MANKATO — Crews of Mankato and North Mankato employees and a contingent of volunteers made quick work of grinding off welds and removing bolts from bases to deinstall 32 sculptures Saturday morning. On May 17 another 32 pieces will be installed for the upcoming CityArt Walking Sculpture Tour. “We have a 20-foot shark coming. We’re working on how to get that here,” said Amy Klugherz, chair of the sculpture tour.

1,500 rainbow trout stocked in St. Peter pond ahead of opener Saturday

ST. PETER — When the state's popular stream trout season opens Saturday, anglers will have good fishing at the trout ponds just east of St. Peter. The Department of Natural Resources Waterville Fisheries stocked 1,500 rainbow trout in the pond Wednesday. "They're about a half-pound each," said Craig Soupir, fisheries manager. He said they expect there will be about 100 anglers at the pond Saturday morning and the numbers are predicted to stay high on Sunday.
World of outdoor adventure awaits kids

It was nice to see some kids down the street who were out by their front sidewalk playing in the past couple of weeks. It was a sign that spring was coming. And it was heartening to see kids laughing and frolicking outdoors. This group is particularly outside-focused, often seen out running, yelling, pushing each other and having fun, no matter the weather.
North Mankato doing groundwork for possible big expansions to the northwest

NORTH MANKATO — North Mankato is doing a detailed review of possible development on the northwest edge of the city, along Rockford Road and Highway 14. The nearly 700-acre area, on the edge of the Northport Industrial Park, is outside the city limits and currently cropland. “In our comprehensive plan we show that as a growth area, and that area has grown at a pretty good rate,” said Mike Fischer, community development director.

MANKATO — After a sunny day Monday, another round of snow, sleet and rain are heading into the region Tuesday and Wednesday.
