In part one of this two part series, I introduced you to orchids, their history and diversity, as well as choosing the proper soil medium in which to grow them and the correct way to water them. As winter approaches, many of you will be thinking of ways to brighten your interiorscapes. One of the best ways, of course, is with the use of flowering plants. The first plant that comes to mind is the poinsettia-and rightly so-since it is the king of all Christmas plants. But there are others we would do well to consider-namely, Christmas cactus, Norfolk Island Pine, and the magnificent amaryllis. This week we take a look at the amaryllis (Hippeastrum).

In Part One of this series, we learned that during the Founding Era of our country, the Black Robed Regiment was the name that the British gave to the courageous and patriotic American clergy. In fact, the British blamed the Black Regiment for American Independence, and rightly so, for modern historians have documented that, because of their strong leadership, ministers played a leading role in securing American independence as well as the formation of the new government.
