Not long ago, high-refresh-rate 1440p monitors were considered a luxury. But fast-forward to 2025, and that dream display for fast-paced PC gaming has become the new normal. Prices have dropped, performance has surged, and for most PC gamers, 1440p now hits the sweet spot between value and performance. Granted, the cost of new mid-range GPUs make the full equation hard to swallow, but most mainstream graphics cards can now handle 1440p gaming with ease. Games are optimized for it.

Editor’s take: AMD has unveiled the Radeon RX 9060 XT, which comes in a bad version and a good version. The bad version is, of course, the 8GB model, and the good version – or potentially good, depending on how it performs – is the 16GB model. AMD has copied Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti homework here, giving both models the same name, which is sure to make it more difficult for consumers to find the good version.

Not long ago, 4K gaming monitors felt like an expensive indulgence, but that's changed over the past couple of years. The kind of money that once bought you a solid 1440p display – think $400 to $500 – can now land you a genuinely great 4K gaming monitor. Upscaling tech has improved, OLED is making moves at smaller sizes, and the barrier to entry is lower than ever.

I'm pretty sure most gaming hardware reviewers play games. Getting into this business was all about a passion for PC gaming. Personally I play a ton of games each year, time permitting. Most of the big single player releases. Currently enjoying Hitman 3

Here's my solution to beat scalpers A queue system implemented by manufacturers that allows loyal customers to go first. The longer you've been a user, and the more active you are in using the product, the better chance you have of buying. Nvidia could implement this in GFE

John Carmack has proposed GPU and console auctions to beat scalpers. This could temporarily drive up the price of PS5s, RTX 3080s, and Xbox Series X consoles, but might eventually cut out scalpers. Details here: https://t.co/NANU5gdT4z https://t.co/3BWdPZTvaW
