Cheshire and Merseyside NHS organisations have gained further recognition with wins at the HSJ Awards 2024. The region had 19 finalists, with three winners being announced at the London event on 21 November. The awards are a celebration of success and sharing best practice, improving patient outcomes and celebrating innovation. Winners included: Workforce Initiative of the Year – awarded to Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance for their work on The Supportive Assistive Programme.

People at increased risk from COVID-19 in Cheshire and Merseyside are being encouraged to book in for their spring vaccine as the NHS National Booking System opens. Eligible people include those aged 75 or over (on 30 June 2024), people with a weakened immune system and those who live in an older adult care home, who are all more likely to have severe illness if they catch the virus.

It’s been a funny old month. With only a few weeks left at Teesside before I leave and start my exciting new job at Maynooth University, it quickly became time to start thinking about how I was going to shift my research over to Ireland. The thing about being in one place for so long, is that you amass quite a lot of stuff. But it’s not just me who is leaving. Dr Rhys Williams, another bony person, is also moving on.
