The country is already one of the world’s big corn producers and consumers and is already facing an expected deficit as demand outstrips domestic production, but it has committed to reaching a 20% ethanol blend target – known as E20 – by April 2025. The International Energy Agency (IEA) said earlier this year that India had attained an average blend rate of 10% by June 2022 and was phasing in E20 blends from April 2023.

Brazil’s soybean oil prices for nearby deliveries have been less competitive than volumes originated in Argentina since the start of December as the domestic biodiesel industry has been reportedly outbidding the export market, sources told Fastmarkets. “The domestic industry is bidding higher than the export market for January due to higher end-of-year demand and lower crush,” Eduardo Vanin, lead analyst at the Brazilian consulting and brokerage Agrinvest, said.

Analysis of the pledges made at the Cop28 meeting on climate change will only meet 30% of the emissions gap that needs to be bridged if the world is to meet a target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has warned. The pledges on three key areas – use of renewable fuels, improving energy efficiency and reduction of methane release and flaring – would only contribute around a third of the reductions needed if realized in full, the agency warned.

The World Trade Organisation (WTO)’s dispute settlement body (DSB) has agreed to Indonesia’s request to establish a panel to review countervailing duties imposed by the European Union (EU) on biodiesel imports from Indonesia, the WTO said on Monday. Indonesia had submitted a second request for the establishment of a panel to determine whether countervailing duties imposed by the EU on biodiesel imports from Indonesia were in line with WTO rules.
