Illinois State Police and the Department of Transportation are reminding drivers to follow the Move Over Law, also known as Scott’s Law, which requires motorists to slow down and change lanes when approaching stopped emergency vehicles with flashing lights. Violations can result in fines up to $10,000, and cases involving injury or death may lead to felony charges and license suspension. Since 2019, ISP has recorded 71 injury crashes from Move Over violations, including three trooper deaths.
