Ah yes, time for the deluge of Marcus Rashford hit pieces now that a move is actually happening. Luckily can't read the piece but I imagine it's a convenient deflection from Aston Villa not getting defenders in yet.

That will go a long way to shaking the ingrained pessimism. Villa tired and well below their level but excellent second half from West Ham. Organised pressure, dominated the ball, got players into the box, overloaded wide. Very good overall, esp with the limitations.

Actually nullified Villa pretty well after that opening 15 minutes. But to hurt them the tempo has got to increase going forward - not convinced anyone can do that aside from Kudus. Villa a good 2nd half team & I’d expect they will create way more chances.

Centre-backs absolutely all over the place with Villa’s movement, midfield two getting bullied by quality. This could get very ugly, very fast.

West Ham could have signed Jhon Duran for £40m last summer but thought that Aston Villa's valuation was too high. Now that valuation has more than doubled to £85m and Danny Ings (4 goals in 49 PL games) is the only fit striker in east London.

Non-West Ham capitulation never felt so good. Credit to Fulham as well, they are a super, super team under Marco Silva.

No comment from Graham Potter on whether West Ham can recall James Ward-Prowse from loan spell. Set-piece specialist has played just 412 minutes of Premier League football for in-form Nottingham Forest. Also, understandably, didn't answer on Ferguson, KDH, Rashford links.

Obviously disappointing to lose but hugely encouraged by what I've seen there. Crucially, already looking forward to Fulham on Tuesday - something I haven't been able to say for a good three months or so.

A refreshing reminder of Graham Potter’s great communication here. Honest, up front, embracing of challenges and accepting that time is needed for him to learn, adapt and get processes in place - the same for the players. Very easy on the ear and uplifting.

Graham Potter is officially in. 2.5 year contract, first job in almost 21 months. “It was important to me that I waited until a job came along that I felt was right for me, and equally that I was the right fit for the Club I am joining. That is the feeling I have with West Ham.”

Right decision to sack Lopetegui but very poorly handled. Wish him the best in the future. Pleased at least that Potter’s contract will be 2.5 years, 6 months & see how it goes would have been an absolute nonsense. The aim now? Top half finish would be really superb work.

I feel for Lopetegui. Not because he’s the right head coach for West Ham rather the way he’s been hung out to dry, position untenable. Should have mutually parted weeks ago, allowed his dignity. Now, likely booted out after public Potter negotiations. Be respectful, be better.
