    Highland Park will take a strong contingent of athletes to the Class 5A Region II track and field meet this weekend in Arlington, following top-four finishes at the area meet in Carrollton.     Highland Park will send two full teams to the Class 5A boys golf state tournament following a stellar showing at the Region II event this week in Pottsboro. The Scots tied with Prosper Walnut Grove for the regional team title, with a second squad placing another three shots back in third place. HP had five golfers finish inside the top 10 at regionals, led by Brooks Simmons (71-67—138) in the silver-medal spot.

    Talia Lardner became the fifth senior on Highland Park’s volleyball roster to sign with a college program this week. Lardner, who played both right-side hitter and middle hitter for the Lady Scots last season, signed with High Point, a Division I program in North Carolina. She verbally committed to the Panthers earlier this spring. Lardner honored alongside two HP soccer players at a ceremony recognizing spring athletic signees on Thursday in the school cafeteria.

    Highland Park closed out its home softball schedule with a resounding 10-0 win over Carrollton Newman Smith on Tuesday. The Lady Scots (9-15, 3-10) earned their third shutout of the season and second against the Trojans. They previously defeated Newman Smith 15-0 on March 21. Both games were abbreviated due to the mercy rule. HP pounded 10 hits and scored at least once in each of the five innings while allowing just one hit to the winless Trojans.
