Luke Barnwell has been named an assistant coach with the Iowa men’s basketball program, it was announced by head coach Ben McCollum. Barnwell has 14 years of coaching experience, most recently spending two seasons in the Big 12 Conference at Texas Tech. He also spent 10 seasons as head coach at Sunrise Christian Academy where he was named the 2021 and 2022 Naismith High School Boys Coach of the Year and led the team to the 2022 National Interscholastic Basketball Conference Championships.

Connor Wheeler has been named an assistant coach with the Iowa men’s basketball program, it was announced by head coach Ben McCollum. Wheeler has eight years of coaching experience at Drake (2024-25), Southeast Missouri State (2022-24), Southern Illinois (2019-22), Southern Miss (2018-19) and Missouri (2016-18). “Connor is a great up-and-coming coach,” said McCollum. “His career path has been fast and rightfully so. He’s very talented and will continue to hone his skills at the University of Iowa.

Iowa State seniors Keshon Gilbert and Curtis Jones have been invited to play in the 2025 NABC-Reese’s College All-Star Game. They are the ninth and 10th Cyclones invited to play in the game in the game’s history. Due to rehabbing his multiple injuries from the end of the season, Gilbert will not be participating in the game. Jones is expected to play in the game. The All-Star game will take place on Friday, April 4 at 3:30 p.m. at the Alamodome as part of Reese’s Final Four Friday.

Josh Sash and Bryston Williams have joined the University of Iowa men’s basketball coaching staff as assistant coaches, it was announced by head coach Ben McCollum. Sash and Williams join McCollum in Iowa City after serving on his staff at Drake a season ago. The duo helped guide the Bulldogs to a school-record 31 victories, a Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament title and to the second round of the NCAA Tournament by way of the 67-57 upset win over sixth-seeded Missouri.

Iowa native Ben McCollum has been named the head coach for theIowa men’s basketball program, it was announced by Athletic Director Beth Goetz. McCollum is the 23rd head coach in program history. “We are excited to welcome Coach McCollum and his family back to Iowa City. Ben has a track record of success both on and off the court. His talent for developing student-athletes and fostering a strong team culture has been evident throughout his career,” said Goetz.
