This time of year, speckled trout have one thing on their minds — stuffing whatever they can into their yellow pie holes so they can fatten up for the spawn. They’re moving toward the big bays, along with the brown shrimp that have spent the last couple months growing in the marshes. One provides an endless buffet for the other, and I met them this week in the small bayous the fish are using as feeding grounds.
