Until last fall a minority government premised on a wealth tax, Medicare improvements and reducing pollution looked poised to run Canada until next October. Since the Americans re-elected Donald Trump, Liberals realized the centre cannot hold. The government began to rebrand.

Preventable or unpreventable? Any time there is an investigation into a health-care staff member’s injury or illness, that’s how the inquiry begins. As a national representative with Canada’s largest union for 20 years, my assignments included health and safety investigations at hospitals, long-term-care residences and paramedic work sites. All of the reviews would conclude these tragedies are preventable.
