In the wheelchair races, Marcel Hug of Switzerland defended his title and American Susannah Scaroni earned her second win. Lokedi broke the previous women's course record, which was set in 2014, by about a minute-and-a-half.

Heartbreak Hill is the name of a long incline on the marathon race course from miles 18 to 21 on Commonwealth Avenue in Newton.  It’s called Heartbreak Hill because it’s where many runners “hit the wall” and become suddenly fatigued.
