Did You Notice? … We’re edging closer to NASCAR Silly Season? It was in late May 2024 we learned Stewart-Haas Racing was ceasing NASCAR Cup Series operations, closing their four-car team and setting off a wild Silly Season. Within weeks, Martin Truex Jr. had followed suit by announcing his retirement, setting the yearly game of racing musical chairs in full swing. This year, it feels unlikely the earthquake of a Cup championship team or driver leaving the sport will hit a second year in a row.

Did You Notice? … NASCAR has taken a first step toward reworking its playoff system? Beginning in 2026, the Championship Race will return to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the first time in seven years. It’s where every champion was crowned for the NASCAR Cup, Xfinity and Craftsman Truck series from 2002-2019. The difference this time is the championship race won’t stay there.

Did You Notice? … NASCAR has continued its stance of standing tough this season on infractions both on and off the racetrack. Sunday’s (April 26) disqualification of Joey Logano and Ryan Preece for spoiler violations at Talladega Superspeedway are the latest NASCAR penalties that show officials have no tolerance for playing outside the rules — even if what they find is an unintentional mistake or does not give the car a competitive advantage.

Did You Notice? … The first two NASCAR Cup Series short track races of 2025 have combined to feature just 13 lead changes? At Martinsville Speedway last month, Denny Hamlin led 274 of the last 275 laps while cruising to a 4.6-second win. This Sunday (April 13), he ran second while Kyle Larson led a whopping 411 of 500 laps at Bristol Motor Speedway. It was a thunderous disappointment at Thunder Valley, a racetrack which one year ago produced the best short track race of the Next Gen era.
