My former high school football coach, David Bumgarner, who lives in the Triad, reached out to me when I became the sports editor and congratulated me, calling me one of the "fine athletes" at J.H. Rose High School in Greenville. In my junior year, I took the field maybe five times-and one of those was the team photo.

    "Wicked" star Cynthia Erivo, NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson and former Utah senator and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will headline the fifth season of Wake Forest University's "Face to Face" series, the school announced Tuesday. Also on the schedule for the next season is retired Army Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster. Romney, who will speak at Wait Chapel on the Wake Forest campus on Nov. 6, served as a senator from Utah from 2019 to 2025.
