It all feels a bit overwhelming these days. My attempts to keep up to date with the daily developments in AI have been exhausting, which explains the irregular nature of this newsletter. “Nobody knows anything" was coined by William Goldman, a screenwriter and novelist, as a way to explain how Hollywood “worked”, and it always seems like a perfect description of the current AI world, the more you read, the more you experiment, listen, talk, learn, the more it seems to make less and more sense.

The debate over whether artificial intelligence (AI) is a threat to humanity or a tool for its advancement has divided society since OpenAI released an early demo of ChatGPT in November 2022. A 2023 global study on the shifting public perceptions of AI, conducted by KPMG and The University of Queensland, found that 85% of respondents think AI has some benefits, but only half of all respondents believe that the benefits outweigh the risks. In this debate, Patty McCord does not sit on the fence.

Ideas that refuse to die. - Remote surgery on a banana - Virtual try on from your own home! - You get an ad for a sports drink because of your smartwatch - It's commerce, but as a conversation. - "Personalized, 1 to 1, marketing at scale" - "Now you can measure sentiment"

Would it be so hard for a commerce website to not offer you 10% off as a popup , like every single site in existence. Yes, your spreadsheets show it to be genius, the very best marketing you do. Same with Promo codes.

I keep reading about the promise of Agentic AI, but see no demos of real life workflows . Let's take this, can someone make an agent that allows me to remove connections to every person who lives in, say, Chile. What about remove connections with anyone who posts in Danish?
