Holding Space - Glasgow

The first in our series of network gatherings relating to mental health, titled Holding Space, was held in Glasgow in October 2024. We invited artists, organisers, health, cultural and migrant justice workers based in and around the city to consider the role of art and creativity and its impact on the mental health and wellbeing of sanctuary seekers. The event was held in partnership with Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF), Refugee Festival Scotland and Creative Scotland.

Ornella Mutoni, our PopChange producer, has released her first documentary film. The Things We Don’t Say, a documentary by Ornella Mutoni, has been released on The Guardian’s online platform and is available now for free. It focuses on complex stories of healing in Rwanda following the 1994 genocide against the Tutsis, which Ornella survived. Ornella has also published an accompanying article in The Guardian describing the background to the film.

During March and April, Studio KIND. an artist-led contemporary art gallery and project space based in the Corn Store, inside Barnstaple’s historic Pannier Market, hosted workshops for women with experience of forced migration. The four art and photography based workshops were delivered by Anna Stevens from Field SW and photographer Abbie Trayler-Smith. Field SW is a new organisation set up to make, show and think about photography across the South West.

Greene King did some research and found out that rain puts almost three-quarters of us off going out.
