Fast forward to June 29, 2023—Taylor Taranto was caught in D.C. with a braced CZ Scorpion, and things went south for him very quickly. He faced two charges on the same day: The feds say it’s an unregistered SBR because the brace on it might make it fit the SBR definition, and D.C. law says he’s carrying a pistol without a license, even though it’s the same gun, which doesn’t make sense since it can’t legally be both at once.

Butts County Sheriff Gary Long says a man named Abdul Aquil is in custody in connection with the break-in, and is lucky to be alive after his encounter with the armed citizen.

Starting in 2016, how many of us heard the phrase “bash the fash” or “punch a Nazi” somewhere? I know I heard it or saw it all over the place. Those who espoused such things argued that this kind of thing was acceptable because the threat was so dire. They had every right to resort to violence in the face of what they argued was violence. Of course, no one actually did anything to hurt them, but it didn’t matter because they’d already rationalized it in their minds.

Montana is a pretty pro-gun state. It's got one of the most important laws a state can have on its books already, which is preemption. Local governments can't enact gun control laws on their own. All such measures have to come from the state. They can be local in focus, but the entire state legislature has to vote on it. Which, frankly, isn't likely to happen. But what about red flag laws? I tend to think of them as gun control laws, as you probably do, too.

South Carolina's permitless carry law has officially been in effect for a little more than a year now, with the law officially being enforced the moment Gov. Henry McMaster signed H. 3594 last March. Despite the fact that the law generally allows folks who can lawfully possess a gun to carry it without the need to obtain a state-issued concealed carry license, though, there are hundreds of South Carolinians who are currently facing criminal charges for carrying a pistol before the law took effect.
