Away from Bearing Arms, I've been on a bit of a crusade to protect children lately. I've always felt it was important, but things just sort of kicked me in the posterior in that regard, and I've been working toward that effort. And really, I'm about protecting kids here. I've advocated for hardening our schools and arming teachers and staff members so they can deal with school shootings far faster than the police can.

The National Firearms Act is currently facing the first real threat to its existence since it was passed in 1934. The measure restricted all kinds of things, including short-barreled long guns and suppressors. Neither are what some like to claim, but they're still going to make the claims in hopes of keeping them from becoming legal. Machine guns, however, are restricted at the federal level, and that includes things like full-auto switches.

Maryland has embraced a lot of gun control in recent years. They were never really super fond of the Second Amendment so far as I can tell, but they've definitely been hostile toward it of late. That's a shame, too, because the right to keep and bear arms is just that, a right. It's bad news anytime a state decides the Bill of Rights is really just a list of polite suggestions at most. But despite all the laws on the books across the nation, bad guys keep getting guns.

There’s a saying that people get the government they deserve. It’s not universally true, but it mostly is. Sometimes, they get it good and hard. In New York City, they’ve had some…interesting politics, lately. Tilting At Windmills is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. AOC is an avowed socialist and an obvious idiot, and yet they keep sending her to Congress, just as one example.

So-called ghost guns have been a convenient bugaboo for anti-gun lawmakers and activists for a while now. The truth is that there's absolutely no way to stop someone from making one if they so desire, and those who are likely to use one for illegal purposes are most definitely not going to be discouraged from doing so because of a law on the books, but many still push for these laws. In Michigan, the state Senate just passed a slew of measures, including a "ghost gun" ban.
