PHILLIPS — The storms subsided in the early morning and volunteers worked hard to have Elk Lake Park ready for the 40th Czech-Slovak Festival on June 22. The festival started out very busy despite the wet grounds from the early morning thunderstorms, said Sally Denzine, festival treasurer. Volunteers were scooping pooled water off the ground where the beer tent was set up, and the grass was soggy in some areas around the park. “We had a lot of people come this morning,” she said.
