Three people have been arrested in a murder investigation after a teenage boy died near a pub. Police have confirmed the investigation but have not said how the boy died. They, along with paramedics, were called out at 5pm yesterday. The boy's family are being supported by officers. It happened in New Moston, north Manchester, and several police cordons were put up, including one by the Fairway Inn in Nuthurst Road, and another in nearby Nevin Road.

The NHS has launched a campaign to find an extra 200,000 blood donors - to get its number of people up to 1m. Officials say that 1m is the number of regular donors it needs to maintain its blood supply. Low blood stocks prompted officials to issue an “amber alert” over supply for hospitals last year and NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) said that more must be done to avoid a “red alert”, which means that blood supply is so low that there is a threat to public safety.

Swiss Sandro Schärer will take charge of the Iberian peninsula clash between Portugal and Spain, which is being held in the Munich Football Arena in Germany at 8pm British time today. Who is Sandro Schärer? Schärer, 36, studied sports and geography at the University of Basel, and was a teacher and ski instructor before training as a referee in 2005.
