GRAND RAPIDS — An 84-year-old man with dementia was reportedly locked in a basement and forced to live in “squalid and repugnant” conditions while his son and daughter-in-law spent nearly $300,000 of his money. Authorities this week charged the couple with 10 crimes each in what was described by investigators and medical staff as “one of the worst cases of adult neglect/elder abuse” they have ever seen.
