The East-West boys and girls basketball all-star games on Saturday were, once again, filled with exciting moments and big-time performances.

    Erin Mills-Reid’s first impression of Mercyhurst was a lasting one. She had just graduated from college in 2006 and had several options to become an assistant coach. It was Mercyhurst, however, that made her feel at home. Nearly two decades later, that impression was still fresh in her mind when Mills-Reid accepted the job as the new head coach of the Mercyhurst women’s basketball team. She is the 15th coach in program history and replaces Brooklyn Kohlheim.

    Mike Mischler never lost the passion for coaching football. He stepped away in February of 2022 to take a break and spend time with family, including watching his son Joe play football at Duquesne. After two years away from coaching, Mischler joined the Prep staff as the offensive coordinator this past fall and on Monday, he was elevated back to head coach of the Ramblers.

    The District 10 girls basketball season had new teams emerge as contenders and new players step up as some of the top athletes in D-10. There were some tough injuries to talented players and a group of returning players that didn't disappoint this winter. One of the toughest things this winter was determining the all-district teams with plenty of talented players in D-10. The Erie Times-News reviewed game films, spoke with coaches and watched games live all season to determine the best of the best.
