Let me expound on this situation. And so it begins…Maritimo introduced the M75 to the U.S. market during the 2024 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.

“No thanks!” was my initial reply when a colleague asked if I wanted to cover a three-week photo shoot aboard a megayacht. It would run right through the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, when my grown kids would be visiting, a rare occurrence nowadays. Spec sheets, options listing, performance data, press releases and brochures — as much as I can get. This allows me to learn about the boat, explore features and ensure the builder delivers what it’s promoting. The fine folks at Pursuit sent me the OS 325 Offshore brochure, and the cover photo is a real grabber. The boat’s tricked out with nearly all the options, including the fishing package. Understand that the base version is a great boat in its own right.

Horizon Yachts has delivered more than 910 yachts worldwide in 36 years. It is one of the 10 largest yacht builders in the world. The company has four specialized shipyards and employs 800 people—and, in the past four years, has taken dramatic steps to “rebuild.”Horizon’s CEO, John Lu, added seven new bays for fitting out hulls, allowing for approximately 15 yachts to be under construction at any given time. This system eliminates the need to move hulls from one shed to another, saving time.

There are center-consoles, and then there are center-consoles built to serve as superyacht tenders. That’s the goal of the Halo 470 from Ocean 1 Yachts: to impress the biggest of the big boys. The builder calls the Halo 470 a super console. Ocean 1 Yachts, formed in 2016, is the brainchild of nearly 30-year Capt. Dean Maggio. He saw that discerning owners and charter guests expected a high level of comfort and safety on board their tenders.

The Galeon Yachts 450 HTS is a yacht designed to enjoy the outdoors. This is even true inside the salon, where panoramic windows exceed 4 feet in height—and are joined by a single-pane windshield, double-folding aft doors, a sunroof, an opening portside window and a starboard helm door. Nestled in Greenville, North Carolina, Grady-White was founded in 1959 by Glen Grady and Don White. These men started building lapstrake-style wooden boats, but by 1968, they had a tough time converting to the new-back-then fiberglass building processes. Mr. Grady and Mr. White ultimately sold the company to a young Eddie Smith who successfully changed the business, helping it thrive over the years to the present day. The rest is, well, history.

The Sunseeker Ocean 182 is named for its gross tonnage, not its 89-foot length overall. Gross tonnage measures internal volume, which is fitting because this British boatbuilder maximized every inch of space on board to enhance the cruising experience. Stepping into the salon, I was immediately impressed by the 7-foot sole-to-ceiling salon windows, which help the gathering area to feel immense. A sofa to starboard can easily seat eight guests across from the 65-inch 4K TV.
