Scholastic UK has swooped for a “whimsical” middle-grade graphic novel series by the Franco-Scottish duo John Chalmers and Sandra Marrs, known collectively as Metaphrog. Senior commissioning editor Julia Sanderson bought world rights for the text and artwork from Molly Jamieson at United Agents in a two-book deal. Wilomina: The Land of Dreams and Nightmares will publish in September 2026 on Scholastic’s Graphix imprint, with a sequel following in October 2027.

French author Marion Brunet has won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), the world’s biggest international children’s and young adult literature prize. In a joint announcement yesterday (1st April, 2025) from Stockholm and the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, judges praised Brunet for her “shimmering and crystal-clear prose" over 15 mostly young adult titles.

The Shirley Hughes Estate has signed with Jessica Hare at The Agency to “conserve the legacy” of the author-illustrator and Dogger creator. The deal for representation was inked with Hughes’ three children Clara, Ed and Tom Vulliamy. Children’s author Clara Vulliamy is currently represented by Hare. The Vulliamys said: “This isn’t a decision we made lightly: these are very precious treasures that we place into her hands.

Usborne has inked a “major” six-figure three-book with Sophie Anderson, the first title of which will be the follow-up to her global bestselling debut, The House with Chicken Legs. Rebecca Hill, Usborne’s fiction director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) for The House with Chicken Legs Runs Away, A Year of Fairy Tales and a further untitled novel from Gemma Cooper of Gemma Cooper Literary, with the deal conducted while she was still at The Bent Agency.
