    It’s a nice sounding idea for a political science paper. A common-sense third-party alternative, to inject some substance into the presidential debate. It’s heavy on the guidelines, pushes some important limits, but mouth the words “Ralph Nader” and you can remind yourself of how real politics works. Care to elect Donald Trump? Sorry, but what more is there to know? Every poll suggests that a third party run by a bipartisan No Labels ticket is not going to draw the hardcore Trumpers.

    The right-wing gang of six justices on the Supreme Court just ruled that affirmative action in university admissions at Harvard and the University of North Carolina violates the Constitution. Do not be fooled. This ruling is not limited to the elite universities that seek to ensure diversity in their student bodies. It is not limited to education. The right-wing majority on the Court is escalating war on the reconstruction that was launched by the civil rights movement.

    Dear Editor,Regarding the failure of the New York state Legislature to ban Central Hudson bi-monthly billing, set penalties for billing errors:What is frustrating is knowing Central Hudson is allowed to pay high-priced lobbyists with ratepayer money to manipulate the governor, state Legislature, and Public Service Commission. A recent New York Times article said three states — Colorado, Connecticut and Maine — have passed laws forbidding utilities to use ratepayers’ money to cover lobbying costs.

    Dear Editor,Most of us know somebody who has benefitted from the miracle of organ transplantation. Consequently, we were dismayed to learn Jews are underrepresented among organ donors compared to other population segments. Why would a community aligned with the ethical imperatives of Tzedakah (charity) and Tikkun Olam (repair the world) be behind in organ donation? One problem is a misinterpretation of Jewish Law.
