Well, you can’t say they didn’t warn us. Congestion pricing is reportedly really helping to ease traffic in Manhattan. But Staten Island is getting slammed with increased traffic since congestion pricing went into effect in January, according to data reviewed by the Staten Island Advance/SILIve.com. You don’t say. The Goethals Bridge saw a big 15% jump in truck traffic in January along with a 3% increase in car traffic.

After complaints from Staten Islanders, it was announced Thursday that Silver Lake Park Road will now be closed to motorists on weekends, beginning on Friday, May 30. A joint announcement about the plan was released by Borough President Vito Fossella, Richmond County District Attorney Michael E. McMahon and City Councilmember Kamillah Hanks (D-North Shore). “For the last several weeks, we have been working with the Parks Department to develop a workable solution regarding Silver Lake Park Road.

District Attorney Michael E. McMahon has underlined his support for a compromise that would see the newly reopened Silver Lake Park Road closed to motorists on weekends. McMahon supports keeping the road open during the week. In a letter sent to constituents who have objected to the re-opening, McMahon pointed to support in the community and from City Councilwoman Kamillah Hanks (D-North Shore) for a compromise that would mean closing the road on weekends. “I will not oppose this,” McMahon wrote.

Former GOP Rep. Michael Grimm thanked President Donald Trump last night after the president pardoned the onetime lawmaker. “I am grateful beyond words to President Trump for restoring my good name and giving me my life back,” Grimm said in a statement that was given to the Staten Island Advance/SILIve.com. Trump gave a full pardon to Grimm on Wednesday. The former congressman served Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn in the House from 2011 to 2015.
