WORCESTER — Call it the shot heard round Worcester. On June 7, Roman Anthony hammered a grand slam over the right-center field wall at Polar Park to put an exclamation point on Triple-A Worcester’s 10-4 win over the Rochester Red Wings. The majestic blast traveled 497 feet and exited his bat at 115.6 miles per hour. It was the farthest and hardest hit ball in all of baseball Saturday night. “That ball was murdered,” WooSox manager Chad Tracy said.

WORCESTER — Richard Fitts learned a valuable lesson after his last start with the Boston Red Sox. “That I’m not invincible,” he said. On June 2, the right-handed pitcher allowed six runs (five earned) and three home runs in one inning during a loss to the Los Angeles Angels. Following his worst start to date as a big leaguer, Fitts was optioned to Triple-A Worcester.

WORCESTER — Before Blaze Jordan received a promotion to Triple-A Worcester on June 3, the Boston Red Sox prospect torched Double-A pitching. During a red-hot May with the Portland Sea Dogs, Jordan hit six home runs and led the Eastern League in batting average (.390), hits (32), RBIs (24), on-base percentage (.490), slugging percentage (.671) and OPS (1.161) en route to being named the Eastern League Player of the Month.

WORCESTER — All eyes are on Roman Anthony at this point. And they have been for a while. Ever since Baseball America listed Anthony as their No. 1 prospect last September, the Worcester Red Sox player secured a permanent place in the national spotlight. With that attention, however, comes a full spectrum of scrutiny. WooSox manager Chad Tracy thinks Anthony has handled the constant curiosity surrounding his every move in the same fashion he plays baseball — with grace and poise.
