Central’s boys tennis picked up a hard-fought victory on Monday. The Falcons beat East Rockingham 5-4 in a road non-district match. Central’s Brady Barr beat Jackson Secrist 8-4 at No. 1 singles. East Rockingham’s Jesse Life beat Bruce Mitchell 8-4 at No. 2 singles. Central’s Jacob Cooper beat Will Loomis 8-6 at No. 3 singles. Central’s Kyle McCabe beat Gavin Perrine 8-4 at No. 4 singles. East Rockingham’s Cole Simpkins beat Jack Fox 8-6 at No. 5 singles.

WOODSTOCK – Clarke County High School girls' soccer coach Ray Hawkins was a little concerned how his team would play on Monday, but his team put his fears to rest. The Eagles came out strong early and beat Central 3-1 in a big Bull Run District contest, which was played in the rain the majority of the match. Clarke County (3-5, 3-0 district) completed a season sweep of the Falcons (6-2, 4-2). “It was a real solid team effort,” said Hawkins, whose team last played on April 8.

STRASBURG — Things couldn’t be going much better for Steve King this year. The Strasburg resident and 1989 Strasburg High School graduate has been a drag racer for many years and is coming off of the biggest win of his career. On March 1, King won the Drag Illustrated World Series of Pro Mod in Sarasota, Florida, with top prize money of $150,000. “I’m living that dream,” King said. “This is what I’ve always dreamed of — driving someone else’s car from somebody else’s dime at this level.

QUICKSBURG — Stonewall Jackson got exactly what it was looking for on Thursday. The Generals pulled out a 3-2 win over Page County in a physical battle between two of the top teams in the Bull Run District. “We knew they were going to be physical,” Stonewall Jackson boys soccer coach Elmer Lopez said. “We knew they were going to come in hot, especially not losing a game in the district so far. They beat Clarke County, they tied Central, so we knew it was going to be a tough game.
