Habemus Papam! We have a Pope. Without the benefit of Hell freezing over, we have a Pope born and raised in America. The Midwest as in Midwest Nice. What’s more he’s born and raised in Chicago. Long before he became the Vicar of Christ, he was formerly known as Robert Prevost with a Mother and Father (What?) and brothers (No way!). The Pope was once a small boy. Oh my stars and garters. Maybe it’s just me, but it always seemed like Popes were born old and wearing Cardinal’s robes.

How fitting. How perfect. Many people will not notice that we have a new Pope, Pope Leo XIV, on the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe day, May 8, 1945. This date is auspicious because on this date the Allies defeated the Nazis and fascism and gave us freedom. Habemus Papam because of what they did 80 years ago. What magnificent men and women they were. How proud we are. However imperfect the West is, we defeated the Nazis.

Last night, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced a plan to make “prudent reductions in the General and Flag Officer Ranks”. I am inclined to think this is a good thing based on our (ahem) winning record of the last few wars. The official DOD title is “General and Flag Officer Reductions”. The Hegseth title is “Less Generals, More GIs Policy”. I wouldn’t call this a “purge”. I would say removing excess or right-sizing.
