But it is too late. I hit deep into the bowels of the lake. It is no longer the beautiful water it was on the shore. It’s dark and ghoulish and, heck, unbreathable! I don’t float like I expected to. I don’t bob like my cousins did. I sink deeper and deeper and deeper as the water stings my eyes and fills my insides. My arms flail and my feet kick, trying to get me back up, but it’s a futile fight of the ant beneath an elephant’s feet. I sink even faster. I can’t breathe. I can’t see.
