A good place to start ‘Working together… to create a future’ for Israelis and Arabs is to recognise the state of Palestine and the Palestinian people. In N Feinstein’s letter, they are completely erased, a metaphorical form of genocide obfuscating facts typical of settler colonialist discourse.

We shouldn’t be surprised by provoking vitriol from their supporters (Keith Duncan’s letter, 31 January) when we challenge a politician to live up to their claims. Kate Smorty and I wrote letters to the The Echo expressing shock and disbelief at the full page advertisement by Justine Elliot and the Labor Party (17 January) announcing she was ‘our voice in Canberra’ and had been primarily responsible for saving Feros Village for the community.

One should not be surprised to read in The Echo (10 January), that our federal member, Justine Elliot is trying, again, to take credit for the recent decision to secure the future of Feros Village. Mrs Elliot claims to be a strong voice in the Albanese government for us. Yet, she was both absent and silent last year when the community organised protests against the proposed closure of the much-loved and historically significant home, funded by the local community.
