Bingo Industries' "rotten egg" gas from its landfill in Western Sydney will soon power a major generator and be converted into renewable electricity. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has received over 750 complaints from neighbours complaining of the landfill's odour. By the end of January, the site in Eastern Creek will have 60 gas wells, drilled 30 metres deep, each vacuuming methane and other gases.

Released footage has captured a lithium battery explosion in the back of a garbage truck in suburban Sydney, the fourth fire of its type this month in the same council area. An innocent motorist has been killed in a crash involving a car suspected of trying to evade police in Western Sydney. A dark grey Holden Insignia stopped on Mare Road in St Marys at 4am, when two officers driving in a marked police vehicle pulled up alongside it, believing the driver was acting suspiciously. Police said the driver of the Holden then accelerated out of their sight towards the Great Western Highway.

Hundreds of mysterious black spheres have washed up on Coogee Beach, raising safety concerns and leading to the closure of the popular eastern Sydney beach. Randwick City Council announced the beach would be closed until further notice while the suspected "tar balls" are cleared and their origin is investigated.
