Tornadoes wreak havoc in Tylertown, Miss. By Tony Martin/Baptist RecordTYLERTOWN, Miss. — Tornadoes struck Mississippi on March 14 and 15, leaving a path of destruction. In Tylertown and the surrounding area, homes and businesses were destroyed, lives were upended, and four people were killed. According to Hubert Yates, director of the Disaster Relief Department at the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board, the storms caused damage in multiple counties.

The Bedford Urban Garden (BUG) has been steadily growing over the past 10 years. What began as a handful of raised beds for rent in 1995 has expanded to 40 beds for rent in addition to 11 beds that are used to grow healthy organic produce for Bedford Christian Ministries Food Pantry and residents of Jonn Early Apartments. Over 3,000 pounds of produce were donated to these establishments this past year.

I was too young to realize that we might be facing a potential threat. The technology that could confirm his prediction did not exist. I have vague memories of the clouds having a different tint than typical clouds, but nothing else pointed toward the possibility that a tornado was on the way. Dad was right. The clouds produced more than one tornado.

PEARL, Miss. – Twelve women incarcerated at the Mississippi Correctional Institute for Women were part of the fall 2024 graduating class of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) and Leavell College. The women graduated with either an Associate of Arts in Christian Service or a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Service. Shawn Parker, executive director-treasurer of the Mississippi Baptist Convention Board, gave a charge to the graduating class at a Dec. 16 ceremony.
