They say one person's trash is another's treasure, and to find some local evidence of that, look no further than the ReStore in Colonie run by the Habitat for Humanity Capital District, one of the four regional affiliates of Habitat International. As ReStore Director Dave Harrison explained, companies coordinating house clean-outs will often stop by the store if they believe they have something of value that, for whatever reason, the original owners have discarded.

Spring always seems to take forever to arrive in the Capital Region. When friends further south are posting pictures of their daffodils in bloom (showoffs), we’re still waiting for some hopeful green shoots to finally pop through the soil. You’re probably eager to escape the cold and soak up some sunshine yourself, so why let those college kids have all the fun? If you needed just one word to describe Colonie native and Lucid Street frontwoman Cait Tizzone, it would be this: confidence. The 22-year-old vocalist, who regularly wows audiences with her uncanny ability to sing just about any rock 'n' roll song that's ever been recorded, exudes it every time she gets on stage. She swaps outfits multiple times during the course of a show to suit her changing moods. She manages to get the too-cool-for-the-dance-floor bar crowd moving their feet.

You may or may not remember him from your elementary school history class, but if you're familiar with the musical "Hamilton," you've certainly been acquainted with the Marquis de Lafayette. A French military officer who used his wealth to supply George Washington's Continental Army with weapons and money, Lafayette was a close friend of Hamilton who fought alongside him at the Revolutionary War's final battle in Yorktown.

The day after this past Thanksgiving was a tough one for septuagenarian singer-songwriter Deb Cavanaugh, a beloved fixture of Rensselaer County whose music has resonated for decades across a wide range of ages. Cavanaugh took a spill that day, and not just any spill - this one involved falling through an open trap door in her bedroom, situated above a spiral staircase that leads down to a workshop.
